Our mission as the people of Salem Baptist Chapel is to bring the good news about Jesus to Tonteg and Church Village by loving and serving our local community.


swba (2)We are proud to be a bilingual church, and are members of both the Undeb Bedyddwyr Cymru (Cymanfa Dwyrain Morgannwg) and the South Wales Baptist Association.

Our minister is the Revd Dr Rosa Hunt and you can contact her on revdrosa@gmail.com or on 07807893373. She lives in Church Village on the St David’s Manor estate and is always delighted to chat to you if you have any queries about faith or any church-related issue. The Revd Jon Birch is our Associate Minister and he and his wife Emma are passionate about living out their faith in the community.

Our services are:

  • 9.30 am on a Sunday Oedfa Gymraeg;
  • 11 am on a Sunday traditional English language service;
  • 4 pm on the 1st and 3rd Sundays only:  informal all age CELEBRATION (English) with activities for children, youth and adults.

We take safeguarding children and vulnerable adults very seriously at Salem. Our church has appointed Dr Emma Birch as our Designated Person for safeguarding, and she should be contacted on 07581888006 if there are any concerns about the safety of children or vulnerable adults. Mrs Irene Elliott (07833898587) is our trustee with special responsibility for safeguarding.

We are proud of our history here at Salem, especially our connection with John Hughes, the composer of the tune Cwm Rhondda. John Hughes was a deacon at Salem and is buried in our graveyard.
